Coming Home

While Cirdan and I waited to be discharged from the hospital we took a bunch of pictures. Here's a few.

Getting Jett dressed in his first outfit...looking forward to taking him home.

Good timing on Cirdan's part. Caught me taking a picture of Jett on my phone while he happened to smile.

All strapped in! Jett is ready to fly home.....

He looks so small!

We are home! My mom was waiting for us with Ella when we got home. Ella was happy we brought her baby brother home. Kaiya was still in school.

After stopping to drop off my prescription and get some food for Cirdan we were finally home! My friend Kristel brought us over some yummy dinner and we were able to relax with our new baby. I was extremely tired.
Kaiya came home after dance so she could spend time with Jett.

Kaiya's School Accomplishments

It's only the beginning of the year but 3rd grade has been great so far! In Kaiya's class they had everyone who was interested in being the ASB representative let the teacher know. Each of the kids had to give a short speech about what they would do for the class. Kaiya's speech went like this...

"I am a good leader because I will encourage all students to have fun and do what they are supposed to do. But at the same time be learning and I will help with all of the school strategies that we use."

After the kids gave their speeches they all voted for 1 boy and 1 girl to be their new ASB representative. Kaiya won the votes for the girl and Mac won the votes for the boy. Mac lives in our neighborhood and is friends with Kaiya. We are super excited for Kaiya! She will have so much fun this year in her new role at school!

P.R.I.D.E.
Kaiya's school has a program named P.R.I.D.E. Each quarter teachers choose a student to receive the award. They will choose one student that best exemplifies the letter...
P- Positive Attitude
R - Respectful
I - Integrity
D - Dependability
E - Effort
The goal is for the student to receive each letter before they leave after 5th grade. There is a very short list of students who have received all the letters over the last few decades. If they do, they get their name on a plaque in the office and they honor you at the assembly (not sure what else they get).
Kaiya received the letter P in 1st grade and in second grade she received the letter D from the music teacher. This year she has already received the letter R! Unfortunately she received the award while I was in the hospital so we couldn't go to the assembly but thankfully my Mom, Ella and her dad were there to support and congratulate her. My mom has pictures on her camera...I will post in the next couple days. We are very proud of Kaiya!

Welcome to the World, Little One

The day of Jett's birth was busy! He had a lot of visitors at the hospital. It was very nice of everyone that stopped by to meet him. We appreciate all the love!

Stacey and Casey were our first visitors...

My mom, Amy, Emma and Ella then came to meet Jett. Ella was excited to meet her brother. She seemed to understand that the baby came out of my tummy. It's interesting to see how much she understands with Jett being born.

My cousin Matt, his wife Carla and 2 of his kids (Josh and Brooklyn) came by. It was very nice of them to think of us!

Nathan stopped on his way home from work.

Kaiya was receiving a surprise award at school that day so I told her she had to go to school. As soon as it was over Meema brought her and Ella back to the hospital so that Kaiya could meet Jett. She thought he was really cute.

Papa showed up a little later....

My friend Sandy stopped by about the time my family was leaving.
After Sandy left we had about a half an hour and then Kristel and Heather came to the hospital. I think at that point I was beyond exhausted and forgot to take their picture with Jett. Darn.

Cirdan and Jett relaxing...

Jett's Delivery

2 weeks before I gave birth -
The doctor told me she would be able to induce when I was 39 weeks. I signed the papers and went home excited. A few hours later I received a call from the nurse telling me that the hospital would not let me be induced because my cervix wasn't ripe. I was devastated. Leaving the doctors office I was so excited...I finally saw light at the end of the tunnel! I wanted to meet my baby! I was so done with being pregnant!! This was such a let down. The next week I continued to go to my appointments for the non stress test (2 weekly appointments), and that following Friday I had another ultrasound.

I didn't meet with my doctor the Friday before I turned 39 weeks because she was in surgery- so I didn't get any questions answered. That next Monday I had an appointment but ended up having to wait for about 2 hours while she was delivering babies. It was worth the wait, I wasn't going to leave that office without talking to her about a plan. Once she got there I asked again about being induced. She said she was going back to the hospital and would ask again. At that point she said that I was dilated to 2. I went home and waited for the phone call....(I would be 39 weeks that next day).
A few hours later my phone rang. The nurse was on the other end telling me that the hospital agreed to induce me the next day!! They would call me that night to let me know what time to come in. I hurried to called Cirdan. We were so excited!!!

That night we spent packing our hospital bags, packing Ella's bag for Meema's house and getting the house perfectly clean for baby boy to come home. My nerves were getting to me and I am not sure if I got any sleep. The hospital never called so I called in the morning around 7:30. They told me it would probably be around lunchtime. We waited and waited and waited. I decided to call again around 2:00. The lady that picked up the phone must have had caller ID cause she answered and said..."are you ready to be induced...? Come on in!!" We gathered up our stuff and took Ella to my parents house. Kaiya was with her dad.

One last prego picture before we left to the hospital.
In my gown and ready to go!!

By the time we got to the hospital it was around 4:30pm. They took me to my room and got me all set up. Nerves were really starting to kick in now. At around 6:45 they gave me the gel stuff to start the induction process. I laid in bed until around 8:30 when the nurse came in and told me that I could get up and walk around until 10:30. At this point I was getting contractions every 5 minutes but not very strong. As soon as she said I could stand up Cirdan and I took a walk around the birthing center. I didn't like walking the halls so we went back to our room and I spent the next hour and a half doing laps around the little hospital room. Cirdan was on the laptop doing sports stuff and working. I don't think I sat down once.

Texting people. This was right before my contractions became really strong.

The contractions were picking up but since I was walking it just felt like my belly was really tight. As soon as the nurse came back in and had me lay back on the bed the contractions became MUCH stronger and were happening about every 10 seconds. I wasn't getting much of a break from the pain. They were strong, I was uncomfortable and having a rough time.

The top graph shows Jett's heart rate. The bottom shows my contractions...how strong and close they were. This shows that they never really even went away. It was a constant pain.
I still wanted to wait until 12:30 for her to come back and see if I was dilated any more before asking for an epidural. It was a very long 2 hours. At 12:30 she checked and said I was dilated to a 3 1/2. That's when I asked for the epidural. I couldn't take it any longer. She told me that she would check with my doctor and let me know. By the time she got the okay the epidural guy came in at 1:30am. I had mentioned to them that with Ella I got an epidural but it wasn't strong enough and I was able to feel everything...and it hurt! The epidural this time was good. In fact, the doctor and nurse commented about how good this one was. I was able to still feel a lot but I wasn't in pain. This was also the 1st epidural I had received that it took hours and hours to be able to stand up . My legs and feet felt like they were asleep...I could move them but they felt crazy.
So after they gave me the epidural I was finally able to relax and get some rest. At 2:00 am they checked me and I had progressed to 4 cm dilated. At 5:00 they checked again and I only changed to a 5. The doctor came in to talk to me and decided to break my water. I told her that with the other 2 kids as soon as they broke my water I went pretty quick.
At about 6:00 am the doctor broke my water. Pretty much as soon as she broke my water every contraction that I had made the baby's heart rate go down. The nurse had me move from my right side to my left side to see if it would help. I didn't. I had to move back to the right and then she had me sit up. Nothing was helping. They also gave me an oxygen mask. I was starting to get really scared. What if the cord got hooked around his neck? Was I going to have to have a c-section?? Another thing that I forgot to mention is that my doctor was off at 8:00 am and a guy doctor that I have never met would take over and deliver the baby. That also made me nervous. The clock was ticking an I knew that I would soon be saying goodbye to my doctor. At 7:00 am the nurses changed. The new nurse came in the room and as soon as she entered I got so excited! It was a lady that Cirdan knew when he was little and she also knows all of my family. She helped Stacey when she was in labor with Casey also. It was nice to see a familiar face. She instantly put me at ease...I felt like she would tell me the truth about what was happening with the baby. She had me move to another couple positions to try and stabilize his heart rate but nothing was happening. Since I had told my doctor that I go fast after the water breaks she checked me again...I had progressed to a 9- 9 1/2! The doctor started to get concerned and told me that we need to get the baby out asap. The nurse and the doctor talked and they both came to the conclusion to have me push. The doctor checked one more time and said that I was pretty much a 10 at this point so they got ready for delivery.
The doctor told Cirdan and I that since his heart beat was doing funny things that they really needed him to come out and she would be using a vacuum. At that point I didn't care...I just wanted him out and everything to be okay with him.
After pushing through only 2 contractions, he was out. The doctor only had to use the vacuum on the last push which wasn't bad at all.
At 8:04 am Jett was born...with a full head of hair. And he was PERFECT! Cirdan cut the cord and then they took Jett to clean him off. It was a surreal moment seeing my beautiful baby boy for the first time. I was thankful for Cirdan, my doctor who was able to be there for the birth and Kristin Graves (the nurse).

He liked his bath. Look at all that hair!

Halloween Cookies....Yummmmm

My friend Kristel and I try to get together every holiday to make and decorate sugar cookies with the kids. We had a very busy week but managed to fit in some cookie making. They were delicious!

At the beginning of the year I told my primary class that if they memorized their Articles of Faith we would have a Wii party. Each of them worked really hard all year. Kaiya and Faith memorized about 6 each and Ty learned all but 1 or 2. Since I had a baby I knew that they would be releasing me from my calling so before they did I wanted to make sure we had our party. The kids came over on their day off from school and ate pizza, cookies and played Wii. They all had fun...I am glad we could have a get together before I was no longer their teacher. I will miss being their teacher.  I am not sure who learned more...them or me.
